Sandwiches, they're one of my favourites, besides pasta and pizza. I do crave Chinese once in a while but not all the time. I would say that pasta is my staple food. Anyway, sandwiches aren't difficult at all. They're just a combination of anything you like and everything you can get your hands on. I usually like a side-dish of salad to make me feel healthier. So, first thing's first, choose whatever bread you like. I like bagels and English muffins or a whole-grain loaf. You can choose to use whatever you like.
Get creative
Pickles or no pickles. (eg : gherkins, olives)
Vegetables used. Rocket. Basil. Lettuce. Sliced asparagus. Mint leaves. Tomatoes (scorched/fresh), Cucumber, aubergines.
With/Without Cheese(s). I recommend the former. Use a variety and combine different ones in a sandwich. Damn. It's a wonder how cheese can taste so good.
Sauces : drizzle of olive oil, BBQ sauce, tomato, mustard, lemon juice, hummus if you may.
Seasonings : usually, I put this in my meat. You can add alcohol to your meat if you'd like, or would you much prefer herbs. Or just salt and pepper. You can always add an egg yolk or the whole egg to a handful of minced meat.
The MEAT.
Minced, or sliced, or ham...sausages? You can also mix and match this, say some turkey ham with beef slices. The types of meat : chicken, fish (eg : salmon steak), beef, mutton, pork, turkey.
Ways of cooking.
Meat : pan-fry / deep-fry (with a crunchy outside), turbo broiler, oven
Vegetables : have it fresh, roasted, dried, barbecued.
Put it all together. Use meat tenderizers and cook the beef how you'd like it best (well done, medium etc) and layer them with a leafy vegetable at the bottom, then the patty/meat, the cheese, the other veggies like cucumber or pickle, drizzle the sauce over. VoilĂ . A masterpiece.
I fried the beef ham and placed Gruyere cheese in between while the ham were still hot so that the cheese will melt a lil'. I also used 3 egg whites, fried and folded into a square (egg yolks not included), topped with cucumber, a splash of Worcestershire sauce. Great morning wake-up call.
Dill pickles, with BBQ sauce, olives, Brie cheese and beef slices squeezed between pumpernickel bagels
My version of a juicy pork burger. The burger has been marinated with herbs (Rosemary leaves) for 2 days while it is thawed in the fridge. I used fresh basil leaves, cucumber, mustard and some lettuce for this.
